What You Can Work On: Bedside Table

Small organizing projects that only take 30 minutes to a couple of hours. This week's project was actually a recent challenge for me: the Bedside Table.

I was given two nights stands by a friend who was redecorating her bedroom. It came at a perfect time as I had two tiny ones and was looking to upgrade. Usually, I have a stack of books, a lamp for each table, box of tissues, water, and those little extras you need readily available.

I went from 2 tiny drawers to 4 large drawers, and since everything fits in one, I didn't know what to do with the other 3 drawers. So I started reevaluating my bedroom, closets, and everything I own. After flipping my closet to Spring/Summer back in April 2025, and purging, I still didn't have anything to place inside it.

Here are the results of my project:

  • The top of the night stand is great! It is much bigger than my old ones so there is PLENTY of room. One night stand has a lamp, a catchall, a book, and a bottle of water. The other has a lamp and a box of tissue.

  • I initially had 3 drawers that were mostly empty. What should I use them for? Well, I decided one drawer will hold my "work" jeans, another my sensual items, and the third has my pj's.

The top drawer on "my side" is for the items I will need, reach for, and put away, the most.

  • Chapstick, lotion, pen & notebook, any medications, sleep mask, etc.

THE BOTTOM DRAWER: I have read MANY an article on drawer organization, but never about how to organize a SPECIFIC group of items.

What am I speaking of? Adult products, or sensual items. Whatever you want to call it, if you have it, you have to make room for it. I organized mine with containers that have lids and covers, that fit in the drawer nicely.

FYI

I wrote about my Kitchen Refresh a few years ago, and there is another product from The Container Store I plan to buy: the Elfa Over-the-Door Racks, which can be used for a multitude of organizational needs. Here is a gallery of my favorite uses for them, but evaluate what your needs are to decide which is the best solution for you.
